Introduction

The N55 engine is the evolution of the N54 which uses a single twinscroll turbocharger instead of twin single scroll turbochargers with the addition of variable valve lift (valvetronic system) to control engine rpm. The high-pressure fuel system has also been revised for optimum performance and better reliability, a fault that plagued earlier n54 engines. This platform responds extremely well to tuning and can withstand upwards of 500bhp with an upgraded turbocharger.

We can increase the performance of your BMW by keeping within the safe limits and tolerances of all driveline components. We achieve this by reprogramming the DME (Digital Motor Electronics) with a modified performance map that was developed through years of research and extensive dyno testing. The result is a smooth and linear power delivery, retaining the factory torque curve with a lot more power all over the rev range.

It may be hard to believe, but fuel economy is slightly improved under normal driving conditions. This is largely due to the extra torque that is now available in the lower rev range which means that you don’t need to rev your engine as much in order to gain momentum. The automatic transmission does not downshift as easily when you demand more power during day to day driving and overtaking manoeuvres.

does it affect reliability?

It does not affect reliability as long as you maintain your vehicle by following all recommended service schedules. Your BMW is equipped with Condition Based Servicing (CBS) which keeps track of all major service items on the iDrive computer. In addition to this we also recommend that you change your engine oil and spark plugs at half the manufacturer recommended intervals in order to maintain a healthy engine.

  • WE RECOMMEND 7,000 MILE OIL SERVICE INTERVALS for tuned vehicles
