Introduction

 

When BMW introduced the twin turbo 3.0 M57 diesel engine, we were simply blown away. We always expected it to be fast but it exceeded our expectations. The huge amount of torque is relentless and kicks in very early with minimal turbo lag thanks to the sequential design. This layout adopts a smaller turbo charge for low rpm boost up to 3000rpm at which point the larger turbo charger takes over seamlessly to provide top end torque and horsepower. This engine also responds very well to tuning with excellent power gains across the entire rev range. You must experience it to really appreciate the difference before and after installation of an upgrade package.

does it affect reliability?

 

It does not affect reliability as long as you maintain your vehicle by following the recommended service schedules. Your vehicle is equipped with Condition Based Servicing (CBS) which keeps track of all main service items on the iDrive computer. In addition to this we also recommend that you change your oil and filter at half the manufacturer recommended intervals in order to maintain a healthy engine.

 

Our in-house stage 3 E92 335d has now covered over 175K of which 100K has been under various states of tune. That is a testament to the M57 engine built quality.
