Introduction

 

The BMW B58 turbo I-6 is the core member of a completely new all-aluminum modular “B” series engine family that shares pistons, rods, valvegear and other key parts with 3- and 4-cylinder siblings, all with 500 cc cylinder displacements. The main design objectives for the new B58 were increased efficiency and reliability with quicker throttle response and even smoother operation vs. the older design N55 turbo I-6 engine. With a closed deck block, LDS cylinder liner coating and forged crankshaft we can say with confidence that almost every aspect of this engine has been overengineered from the ground up, making it capable of power outputs far beyond its factory configuration.

We can increase the performance of your B58 powered BMW by keeping within the safe limits and tolerances of all driveline components. We achieve this by reprogramming the DME (Digital Motor Electronics) with a modified performance map that was developed through extensive research and dyno testing. The result is a smooth and linear power delivery, retaining the factory torque curve, but a lot more power all over the rev range. The results are truly impressive when it comes to the B58 engine.

does it affect reliability?

 

It does not affect reliability as long as you maintain your vehicle by following all recommended service schedules. Your vehicle is equipped with Condition Based Servicing (CBS) which keeps track of all main service items on the iDrive computer. In addition to this we also recommend that you change your oil, filter and spark plugs at half the manufacturer recommended intervals in order to maintain a healthy and reliable engine.
